Apple / Mac email using either Mail or Entourage

I have been using Mac Mail for over a year and it works fine overall.  I previously used Outlook on my PC and the features in Outlook are obviously beyond the features of Mail.  If I use Entourage will I find the program features to be more like Outlook?  I have heard that Entourage is the hot ticket for the Mac but before I make the switch I would like some feedback from other agents who are using Entourage.

Thanks,

Sam Miller

Hi Sam,

I've been out a while. Here's my take on the Entourage. I did use it once upon a time, but the features in Apple Mail suffice for me. Not to mention sync'ing across Ical and "the cloud" aka mobileme. I believe it now supports Exchange as well. I use Outllook at work. The tasks functions are neat, but that's really the only difference I can tell- that and I can access my boss's calendar and set up meetings and tasks for her and vice versa.

Hi Sam,

I've used Macs for many years, and Entourage is what I use for mail. I used to use the Mac version of Outlook, but Entourage works great, and syncs just fine with everything I use.

Just my 2¢

Nogui - Thanks for commenting and I have enjoyed your comments on my other topics in the past especially relating to the iPhone.

Michael - I appreciate your comment and I would love to know if you are syncing to MobileMe or to a .Mac account?  Did you find useful features beyond Mail that you are using?

Thanks!

Hi Sam,

I have to apologize as my last comment may have been a bit msileading. Sorry about that. When I said it syncs fine, I wasn't thinking of things like mobile devices. I was thinking of things more likes iCal and my contacts file, which are all local on my hard-drive. So, I really can't answer about programs like MobileMe.

I use Entrouage: when I switched over from the PC I was a big Outlook user and I was interested in using the "Entourage Projects" feature which I have since abandoned.  I have to have Offic eon my mac because my kids use both pcs and mac and use Word alot but if I didn't have to have Office for that reason, I would probably can Entourage going forward and stick with Mail.

Amy - Thanks for commenting and I appreciate your opinion.  I am using mail now and it is working fine but is just a little light on features.

Sam,

I use Mail, and iCal, simply for the sync ability with my iphone. I try to avoid Microsoft products as much as humanly possible.

I'm using Mail in conjunction with iCal and Address Book. Being able to sync my home mac, office mac, macbook and iphone using Mobile Me is priceless. The major bugs seem to have been resolved but there are still minor ones.

Sam, what did you do? I just got a Mac a few weeks ago and am going through the phase of What was I thinking?

I did put Entourage on and have been using Mail and Entourage both.

I actually think Mail functions more like Outlook, which had been my contact manager for everything for 10 years. But, I love the preview in Entourage so not sure where I will land yet?

I just joined the Mac group on AR and have been reading all the posts.

Missy, I have stuck with the Mac Mail program and I am very pleased.  I have spoke with other agents who are using Entourage and they just couldn't justify a big enough difference other than that it feels like Microsoft Outlook.

Sam,

Just curious if you're still using Mac Mail or have you switched over to Entourage?

I've been using Mail for a few years now and like the way it works, although there are certain features of Outlook that I miss, like getting a receipt for opened mail, or sending an email later, or an auto-responder. Maybe those functions are available with some add-on, I don't know.

Curious about how it's going for you now?

Hi Lisa, I am actually still using mail and mobileme both.  So much of my daily messages are now handled with my iPhone and mobileme that I decided making the switch didn't seem worth making the change.  Are you using an iPhone or iPod Touch for your mail?
