A Cool Companion For The FLIP Video

I have experimented with shooting a handful of videos while either driving a neighborhood or riding my bike.  Both of these examples have required me to hold the video camera with one hand and steer my car or bike with the other hand.  Last week I was visiting a Best Buy store and I came across a new product that will make my neighborhood videos shoots a breeze and here is a photo of my newest tech tool.

Job Flex Tri PodWhat you are looking at is the Joby Gorillapod which only cost me $23. This product works like a charm and is an exceptional value.  This unique tri pod will bend, wrap around and grasp your automotive mirrors and your bicycle handle bars.  This product will enable you to have both your hands free and it also helps maintain a more steady camera view.  Anyone wanting to shoot video while on the move will greatly benefit from this product.

Missy - Have you found any creative uses for your Flip yet?  I am going to mount my flip using my new tri pod to my bicycle forks to create an entirely different video perspective.

RuthMarie - For $23 the Joby tri pod is hard to beat and I am sure you will like using it.

Can you provide a URL for some of the neighbor videos you've shot?   Seems like a fairly good idea assuming the quality is there.  Please let us know.

Ok aside from being a guy who loves a new toy I am more worried about you driving down the road shooting pics .. on a regular bases. It reminds me over the great sign and drive commercial. We now have agents driving reading email / texting replies chatting on the cell phone reading direction to our next appointment or better yet getting yelled to make a legal u turn by or GPS and you want to strap a camera to your steering wheel.

Renee -  This is a video where I held the camera out the window using the FLIP.  Keep in mind that YouTube compresses the video so this is not showing the true quality of the FLIP.

Eric - No need to worry about me because this video is exactly why I bought the Joby flex mounted tri pod.

Sam - Thanks for the product tip.  I ended up going with the RCA Small Wonder, which is based on the Flip.

My son got one of these and uses it just for standing on a table or counter, we need to make the leap to gripping! Thanks!

That is a really cool little device. Sounds like you are doing a lot with video these days. All I have to do is watch what you are doing with technology and I can stay on the cutting edge! Hope all is well in Mt Vernon, Ohio these days. Are you on track for your goal?

Sam, amazing, tell me more about the Flip?

Charles - Great to hear from you and hope you are still doing great.  I bet your son is having fun with his Joby Tri Pod.  My team and I have been discussing other uses for the Joby.

John - Congrats once again on the home run you hit in your market.  Feel free to subscribe to my social network by visiting:

Karen - The Flip is a mini hand held style digital video recorder that holds 60 minutes of video, it is 640x480 and the Flip has a built in USB connection so when you are done with your video you just plug in the USB into your computer and transfer the file.  It is so smooth and so quick loading you won't believe it.  This would easily win an IRA Holy S_ _ _ award like the Fujitsu Scan Snap.  Here is a link to a prior blog I did on The Flip:

Happy Selling!

That thing is way too cool. How about using to shoot your child's ballgame. You can wrap it around your arm and you still get to watch the game as you pace up and down the sidelines.

Karen - I hadn't thought of that one and your idea brought a smile to my face.

I've been thinking about getting a Flip, and this looks like a great accessory. Thanks for the tip! Are you in Las Vegas for the RE/MAX convention?

Jessica - Happy to help. Just be sure to share with us how you do with it.

John - I just got back from The CRS Sellabration in Hawaii so I had to skip Las Vegas this year.  We will be watching some of it on RSN.

Hey, maybe this would make a good accessory for makeshift pole photography.

I used my Joby and my Flip to mount inside my car and video the Ohio snow storm.  I mounted it on my dash and drove my neighborhoods and shot some cool video of the 15 inches of snow we got within the last 24 hours.
