Video Question

I have a question that may seem a bit odd.  I used to use a Sony DVD Handycam 301 and back when I used it I recorded a ton of the 1.4 gig mini dvd's.  I am now finding myself not easily able to use the mini dvd's.  I have switched away from the pc platform to the Mac and I am wondering if there is an easy way to convert the video file into something more useable.  The problem is that my new MacBook Pro has an internal DVD slot so there is no actual DVD tray that will hold the mini DVD's.  Does it make sense that I could do a DVD copy with the mini dvd inside my camcorder connected to my computer using Firewire and copying the movies onto my Mac?  Sony DVD 301

Sam,

there are many video converters around there, just tell me what format do you need and I will get you one, I am not sure the mac formats, but I can find the way how you can see them on MAC.  Did I answer to your question, or can you specify ?

I am still a pc user, so no practice with MAC, but I love macs :P

Hello Sam,

If I'm reading you correctly, it sounds like your most straight-forward bet would be to 'capture' the video content from the camera directly into your mac via a firewire cable, as you described.

Alternatively, if you still have access to a PC somewhere, you can convert your mini dvd's on that PC to a compatible format (.avi, .mov, .mp4 etc) and then copy those files to your mac via an external drive...

In all honesty, option #1 is likely the simplest route!

Good luck,

Thanks for the tips and Firewire it will be.  I wish there was a faster way but ultimately it will do what I need it to.  Thanks again Dan and Ray!
