New Technology You Won't Want To Be Without

Wouldn't it be nice if you could use a single bluetooth headset with both your office desk phone and your cellular phone?  Actually you will be happy to know that you can and it is very easy to do.  I bought a GN 6210 Bluetooth wireless headset for from Hello Direct and it is an amazing product.  It paired with my TREO in about 20 seconds and has worked seamless.  The GN 6210 comes with a charging cradle/dock that connects to your desk phone and with a push of a button you can toggle between your cell phone and your desk phone...meaning you can use the same headset with both devices.  I have been in my office on my desk phone using the headset...got a call on my cell phone, asked the desk line called if I could put them on hold, then answered my TREO and toggled my headset onto the TREO...finished the call and then toggled back to the desk phone with another push of the button.

If you want a simple to use headset that has a long batter life (8 hours of talk time) I really like the GN 6210.  If you have seen the Jabra BT250 headset...the GN 6210's actual headset looks pretty much identical but comes with desk dock.  I paid roughly $200 for mine through Hello Direct but they now are offering a reconditioned model for only $99.  If you want to squeeze some extra work into your day this is an easy way to turn up your productive time to a new higher level.

Hi Sam. I didn't even know it was possible to use one device for both types of phones. Thanks for the info!

Sam, thank you for the tip, I can really use this.  Do you know how clear it is in if you go outside?  Just wondering.  Thanks!

David, I think it is pretty clear.  I am sure if I am outdoors and in the wind it would pick up a howling sounds but my TREO cell phone probably would also.  When I am in my SUV I am careful not to point my A/C vents directly at my head to minimize noise...I have yet to have a complaint from any of my clients about poor sound.

I bought a Jabra headset (with wire not bluetooth) and didn't realize it has buttons! I managed to mute the darned thing. Unfortunately I tossed out the instructions but I guess I will find out what I need from the web. Now I wonder if the 2nd button is to go to a desk phone. Technology is just too complex (kidding).

Thanks for a great post Sam. I have a blue tooth headset from Plantronics that does the same. So cool.

I've been using a hard wire headset at the office for years and just recently went to bluetooth for the vehicle.  This looks like a great way to condense and gain some mobility in the office, too.  Being new to bluetooth, I sometimes leave my phone on the desk, walk through the office (and out of range), then have pairing problems upon return. I did buy just a cheap Jabra set, though and a higher-end model may not do this.

My headset will lose it's pairing if I walk across the street to the title company but as soon as I get back to my office I simply push the button on the front of the cradle and it is paired again.

Interesting.  The manual that came with this set  (Jabra BT125) is pretty bare bones, but I'll try pressing the headset button the nedt time that happens and see if it re-connects on its own.  This is one area of technology where I'm definitely 'behind the times'.  I always preferred the old hard-wire connections but am trying to push out of my comfort level in many areas.  Thanks for the update, Sam!

I like this unit so much I am going to add a second system for $99 just to have a second cradle at my home to use with my home phone.

That certainly is a strong recommendation!  I wish that I had gone with a more expensive headset now, but it was funny. This unit was low end in price but had 1 hr more talk time and 10 hours more standby time than some of the others ones that cost almost double the price!  I think I'll try to work out the bugs with it and if no success, I'll upgrade.  Thanks for the discussion on the GN 6120.

Sam thanks for the tip. From the moment I sit at my desk till the time I leave wherever I need to be I'm on the phone. This is an invaluable tool. Best of luck. Keep doing what you do.

I heard this was coming.  That little device looks mighty strange though.

Vincent--I am with you...I live on my phone at my desk, in my car and at my home.

Tracy--It does look a little odd at first and it actually has an adjustable soft rubber ear piece.

Thanks for sharing, Sam. When you transfer is to your desk phone are you still using your mobile minutes?

Bluetooth devices always get to me when you're standing there and someone just starts talking and you think they are talking to you, but noooo they have a bluetooth headset on which you can't see because it's on the other ear.  Crazy little things, thanks for sharing.

LaShon, I actually never tranfer the cell phone to my desktop...I simply use the same headset for both devices (1 at a time).  This is how I can toggle between the phones using the same headset.  It works pretty smooth.

Oh, so you are the guy who looks like he is talking to himself. LOL

Hmmm...  very spiffy!  Glad you specified that it works with your Treo-- I'll have to check it out.  :)

Cool Suggestion.  Thanks!  Now if I can get my TREO to answer my laptop I will be all set.

Matthew, What do you mean if you can get your TREO to answer your laptop?  I was using my bluetooth headset with my Tablet doing voic dictation which is pretty neat while driving.

Sam - Why did you have to do this my friend?....I had just fallen in love with my new Jawbone this year!  It is the most amazing headset I have ever owned and now you have to muddy the waters telling us about this great headset which I could really use.  What am I going to do???!!!
Posted by George Tallabas, Idaho Real Estate (RE/MAX Advantage) almost 12 years ago
George, The Jawbone is a great product and eliminates any noise such as wind or a/c vents in your car blowing at your mouth piece on your headset.  What you have is great but I am just not sure if it will easily toggle between your desk phone and your cell phone.  You may be surprised and learn that your Jawbone has a similar toggle feature.

Thanks for the blog post.  Does it work with the desk phone by lifting the handset at the push of a button on the headset....and does it also hang up in the same way....as my current hello direct wireless headset does?
Posted by Don Diltz, DRE:01204965 (Coldwell Banker) almost 12 years ago
Hi Don,  They do offer a receiver lifter (probably technically called something else) and they offered to sell one to me when I was buying my first 6210.  I didn't buy it because when I am in my office I am at my desk with my computer returning calls so there was no need to have "the lifter" at my desk.  I have always been very pleased with Hello Direct.  They are not always the cheapest but they have what you want, when you need it and if you have a problem they can quickly walk you through it and have you up and running in minutes.  When it comes to lower price or value...I am all about long term value.  Happy Selling!

Sam,

This sounds pretty cool!  I have a dumber version of the Jabra which doesn't switch over.  But Christmas is just around the corner!

That is cool. Of course, I tossed all of my phones in favor of a single cell phone. But anything that reduces the number of gadgets and ups the number of uses, I'm a fan.

Posted by Nancy Moeller (Seven Gables Real Estate) almost 12 years ago
Nancy, I am with you on reducing the number of gadgets but the newest wifi devices like the IPOD Touch will be something I am going to need to add without the cell phone feature.

I was on my headset for about 7 hours straight yesterday except for the short time I was in a closing...the battery/headset never gave up.  This headset impresses me more each day.
