Google Search Using Your Cell Phone and Text Messaging (it's fast)

Have you ever needed a quick phone number and didn't want to take the time to boot up your computer and search Google and you wanted to avoid the high charge for directory assistance or 411 connect?   Have you ever wanted the phone numbers for the local movie theatres or pizza places near you and you don't have anything to write the numbers down on?  There is a quick and easy way to get the information you want within 60 seconds and most of you can get the information quick and cheap with your cell phone and your text message feature.

Send a text message to this number:  466453 (I know this is a partial number but trust me it will work).  Now type in what you are searching for and for your example use the following as a test:  Plumber 43050 (of you can type in Plumber XXXX (enter your zip code where my x's are)  Now simply press send and sit tight and within 60 seconds you will get a text message with the information.  This works for client names, addresses and phone numbers and it works for just about anything you are searching.  If you want another good test why not search your name or your spouses name and your zip code?

There are so many potential uses for this service and once you play with it a bit you will quickly see the many possibilities.  Your family will love it, your past clients will love it, your team will love it, I have a feeling that pretty much anyone with a cell phone will find a use for it at some point.  The key to remember is that if you do not have a text messaging account you will get charged a non contract text message rate.  For those of us with text messages contracts and especially those of us who have unlimited text messaging this is a feature that we will be using on a very regular basis.  Google has done it again and the speed of this service is amazing.

It sounds great.  It is better than calling the office secretary when you aren't in the office.

Vicky, You are exactly and think of using it after your office is closed later at night...I am really impressed with this service and I don't have to write the number down.  Better than that...the phone number is highlighted so with my Treo I can simply tap the phone number on my screen and it automaticallyt dials the phone number.  Test it out and share your experience...I think you will like it.  Sam

Sam, that is very cool. I will try it first thing in the morning. Does the number 466453  have any significance?

Margaret, I have a feeling the Cyberstars will be all over this service.  It is so simple and so quick...I showed my wife how easy it worked tonight and she could not believe how fast it located the results.

Adam, Even if you have an internet phone this is so fast and so easy that it you may find yourself not using the website google on your cellular phone.  One of the things with the Treo 650 and 700 and some other smart phones to remember is that when you are online with your phone you can not take incoming calls...this way you are not locking up your phone from incoming buyers.  This is very cool technology for sure.

Do you have to do such fun things so late? I really do need to go to sleep! Thanks again for this cool and easy tip that I can see myself using ALL the time.

Yeah, I have to work on this type of stuff later at night because we have been so busy with clients during the day.  I have been at the Ohio Association of Realtors Annual Conference in Columbus the past couple of days so I am doing some serious multi tasking lately.  I have been driving home after the sessions each night and catching up with purchase offers.  Late at night I can get 3 times the work done in an hour because there are no interuptions.

This is such a great tool!  And it shows that people are actually using this kind of technology!  My coworker called me the other day for an address and then remembered he could text for it through Google.  Needless to say, he hung up the phone and found the place faster than I could have looked it up online!

A great way to associate this kind of technology in your real estate business is providing that kind of instant information to your consumers.  Goomzee Connect allows you to provide a text-for-info service at your properties.  Consumers can send a text message with the property ID and instantly receive a text back with information about the property.  It's similar to flyers but it saves money, time and also eliminates flyer box hassles among other things.  The service is also a lead capture where agents receive an alert with contact information for follow-up.

You can learn more about Goomzee Connect at www.goomzee.com.

Great post!  I'm a little spoiled with the Treo but for my fellow Rainers that do not have internet capable phones, have no fear!!!  This is a great tool to use!!!

I am excited to see that others are enjoying this service also.  The key is to get your clients to try this out...once they try it they will love it and they will remember that you were the one that shared the idea with them.  This is good info for an electronic newletter or a direct mail piece.  Happy Selling!

Sam, that's great, SMS (or text messaging) is a great tool for everyone.  Many companies are jumping on board offering these types of services.  Here at HouseFront (my company) we offer the same type of thing, by texting and address to the number 46873 or the word 'HOUSE' (these are called 'short codes' in case anyone was wondering) you get back home information and valuation.  These tools I suspect will only be growing as more people are texting.  Thanks for the update.  Love the blog.

Hi Stephen, I will give your service a try this evening.  Thanks for adding your comments and this topic will continue to grow as we find other uses for this.  It would be neat to use this blog to build ideas and uses for this service.  Sam

I tried out something new last night with the Google text message...I didn't know the zip code of Heath Ohio but I wanted to find the "call ahead number" for a popular dinner spot so I texted Google with "Heath Ohio and the name of the place" and 30 seconds later it sent me.  I had no idea it would do this...I thought I had to have the zip code.  This service keeps getting better and better.

Sam - You are an amazing source of information

Great....I just text and got immediate list of info. Thank you a lot.

George - Thanks.  I am part of several active real estate groups around the country and the common theme of these groups is to share info with other agents and for each of us to improve the real estate industry.

Arina - I am happy you like it and tested it out.  Remember to set up the number in your cell phone for future use.  I actually just put "Google" in my cell as a last name this way when I need a number I just type "goo" and it pulls up the number instantly.
